In April and May, children in grades 3, 4 and 5 throughout the state of Maryland will be participating in PARRC assessments in the areas of Reading and Mathematics. Students in grade 5 only will participate in the MSA Science assessment. We are in the process of developing the testing schedule for Calvert students. That information will be shared with parents of students in grades 3, 4 and 5 as soon as the schedule is finalized. The PARCC assessments will measure the ability of our students to think critically and apply their content knowledge. The assessments will ask students to work through a variety of questions formats, show their work and explain their reasoning.
The PARCC Reading and Mathematics assessments each have one component that will measure student attainment of all standards in those content areas taught throughout the school year. The assessment window for the state of Maryland is from April 19th through June 2nd. Information about specific assessment dates will be shared with parents, once the assessment calendar and schedule have been determined.
Students in grade 5 will take the MISA (Maryland Integrated Science Assessment) assessment in mid to late March. Grade 5 teachers will provide information about specific testing dates to parents once those dates are finalized.
Once the testing schedules are finalized and shared with parents, we ask your help in making sure that students are in school on the designated testing days. Please make every effort to have students at school on time and to allow them to remain for the full day. You can help your children on test days by making sure that they get a good night’s sleep and eat a good breakfast. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding regarding these important assessments.
